BC Government Recognizes Hole, Stops Digging – 350.org Responds to New Provincial Tar Sands Rules

In response to the BC government’s announcement of new rules around shipping tar sands through the province, Cameron Fenton, a Canadian organizer with 350.org issued this response.

“When it comes to fossil fuel expansion, especially massive tar sands projects like Kinder Morgan, the rule of “when you’re in a hole, stop digging” is a good place to start. This announcement from the government of BC does just that. As of today, there’s a moratorium on new tar sands shipments to the West Coast, and that’s good news for the climate and communities.”

“We know that tar sands pipelines spill and that our climate can’t handle a project like Kinder Morgan. The science is clear. The question now is whether or not Justin Trudeau is going to bow to big oil or listen to the science, to Indigenous peoples and the tens of thousands of people saying it’s time to move past projects like Kinder Morgan to a clean, just and renewable future.”
