350.org Responds to Biden’s Selection of Brenda Mallory to lead White House Council on Environmental Quality

Washington, DC — President-elect Joe Biden has chosen head of regulatory affairs at the Southern Environmental Law Center Brenda Mallory to lead the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ). The CEQ coordinates White House energy and environmental policies across federal agencies, and can have a major influence on pipelines and other big infrastructure projects.

350.org Associate Director of Policy Natalie Mebane gave the following response:

“We are supportive of Brenda Mallory’s appointment to the Council on Environmental Quality. This move signals the Biden Administration’s intent to reverse course on four years of environmental destruction, towards securing clean air and water for communities historically most impacted by industrial pollution, namely low income and Black, Indigneous and communities of color. Mallory is now in a position to undo Trump’s gutting of the National Environmental Policy Act, which CEQ oversees, a move that made it easier for fossil fuel infrastructure to get project approval. She has signaled she will do so, and we expect her to follow through. Mallory has affirmed her commitment to environmental justice and we will work with her to ensure the Administration delivers on their climate promises to the most impacted communities.”
