As the climate crisis worsens and millions across the UK are struggling to pay energy bills, the mega-rich are growing richer, and getting away with paying less taxes than the rest of us do.
Large-scale, home-grown solar and wind power could bring down bills, and make the fossil fuel industry obsolete. And if our governments taxed billionaires properly, we could raise enough money to help speed up the shift to renewable, affordable energy for everyone – both here in the UK and for communities in countries in the Global South like South Africa and the Pacific Islands.
Let’s demand fairer taxes on the mega-rich, and use the money to fund a renewable energy revolution and other urgent issues like the NHS, warm home upgrades, better public transport and tackling climate impacts across the world.
Many of the richest people in the UK pay a smaller percentage of tax than you or me1. And many billionaires have gained their wealth through exploiting people and extracting our planet’s resources. It’s time for them to pay up.
This kind of tax is not radical. What defies all logic is letting the wealthiest people in the world pay proportionally less income tax than the rest of us do. And this doesn’t mean extra tax for high income jobs like doctors, we’re talking about taxing the extreme wealth of multi-millionaires and billionaires.
The bill for climate action must be paid by the richest.
We’re calling on governments to #TaxTheirBillions and back a wealth tax on the super-rich to fix the climate crisis 💰

Some of the world’s leading economists have argued for increased taxation on the super rich for years. And now momentum is building. Together, we can make sure the bill for climate action is paid for by the richest and greediest. And that the money they pay will go towards a better world with strong communities, affordable, renewable energy for all and quality local services like housing and healthcare.
This petition is an important first step. We’ll also be using every tool and tactic to push the new UK Government to get on board with these taxes – and there’ll be plenty of other opportunities for you to get involved coming up soon.
