Washington, DC — In response to Oregon LNG withdrawing their proposal for the proposed Warrenton LNG export terminal, and the Senate moving forward an energy bill that would expedite LNG exports, 350.org’s U.S. Policy Director Jason Kowalski issued the following statement:
“The fierce organizing of Oregonians and indigenous communities has now stopped both the Jordan Cove and the Warrenton LNG export terminals. Just last year, insiders expected these projects to cruise through the approval process. Now, it’s clear there will never be an LNG export terminal on the West Coast. The industry knows that without LNG exports, fracked gas is going to stay in the ground. And that’s exactly what our climate and our communities need.”
“And yet, even as local communities shut down fossil fuel infrastructure, some Senators are pushing an energy bill that would expedite LNG exports, fast tracking our collision course with climate catastrophe. LNG is worse than coal from start to finish – and after disasters like Porter Ranch, it’s absurd to propose building more massive, leaky gas infrastructure. Climate leaders need to keep gas in the ground and listen to communities who reject LNG exports.”
